I love Mom, but does it have to be this expensive?

I read an article yesterday that says we’re going to spend about 51 cents less on Mother’s Day stuff this year than we did last year.

But we’re still going to spend an average of $138.63.

I love my mom. I love her a lot. Really.

But I would not live to send another Mother’s Day card if I spent that much for Mother’s Day stuff, because my mom would kill me.

If I neglected to recognize the day entirely, she’d be very sad — and rightfully so. But $138.63? What happened to a nice card, some flowers or a plant (perhaps), a call or visit?

How do Mother’s Day gifts go in your household? What do you do to celebrate your mothers? How do your children celebrate their mothers? For you fathers out there, how do you celebrate the day for your wife?

I can’t believe I’m the only one in shock that we, on average, spend that much on Mother’s Day.

But I can’t believe how much we spend on Christmas presents, either, so maybe I’m the odd one.

No Mom’s days gift in our household.
My husband calls, I call on skype, that’s it.
We are not much for manmade holidays.

Unless I can sell my Mother’s day cards, of course. Then I’m all the contrary ;)

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. :)

My mum would also kill me if I spent much on her! Our mother’s day was back in March (UKer here) and I got her a card and bunch of flowers… she seemed happy with that!

My mom always is! :)

My auntie (mom’s sister) lives across the street. And they do compare what their daughters give them on Mother’s day. The worst thing is that we have TWO Mother’s Day. One is the International version and one is the Indonesian national version. Beat that!

I’m not even going to try to beat that! :) Ugh…

Shocking. Last year I spent about $10 on Mother’s day stuff for Grannie. It doesn’t make any difference to her how much is spent - it’s the thought that counts. Just the thought.

That’s how my mom’s always felt about it… she just likes to be remembered.

I totally agree with you… it’s ridiculous. I’m a big fan of the more sentimental gifts, which usually don’t cost anywhere near 138ish dollars, or even way, way less for that matter.

It’s good to know that my blog readers are sane — most of them anyway. :)

Dang! Apparently I need to revise my request for a $25 hanging basket of flowers (that I would buy anyway) and go for the gusto. Wow!

That is WAY too much.

“Wow!” is what I thought, too. Heavens!
