(Photo taken on March 10.)
Toby isn’t feeling well. He doesn’t particularly want to eat. He doesn’t particularly want to go for walks. He doesn’t particularly want to sleep, although he is curled up next to me on the sofa as I type this. His head is resting on my foot. :) Check that. He just got up, walked to (near) the kitchen, and threw up on the rug. I put him in his crate (with the door open) to see if he wanted to rest there. He seems to.
We were gone yesterday for about 12 hours. When we got home, Toby was very thirsty (not surprising) and kept drinking and drinking and drinking, but he didn’t want to eat. He did his “business” two times, the second time a little less “normal” than, well, normal.
We were a little worried, but went to bed, waiting to see what this morning would bring.
I sat bolt-upright about 8 this morning and poked Toby to make sure he was still alive.
He didn’t want to eat again this morning, but we got him to eat a little. (In retrospect, this was a bad idea.) As far as I know, he’s not had anything to drink since last night.
He doesn’t appear to be dehydrated. Nothing seems to “hurt.” But he’s not quite right.
Ed’s going to take him to the vet this morning. His appointment is at 11:20. I’m going to stay home with Fox. I can’t “deal” with a vet visit today. Maybe that’s wrong of me, but I just can’t.
Toby is probably o.k., meaning he’s not likely to die today. He probably “just” has an upset stomach. But his not feeling well reminds me that he won’t be around forever. And that thought breaks my heart.

I am so sorry to read this. It is hard. I grew up on a farm with lots of pets around all of the time and it never got any easier to bear when an animal was hurt, or sick, or passed away. I hope Toby is doing okay and if you get a chance, post an update.
I love that photo you took of him. He is adorable.
Thanks, Michelle. I love that picture, too. It’s hard to tell where he ends and the blanket begins, which is why I took the photo in the first place. :)
I’m so sorry. We went through something like this with our dog a few years back. It’s so hard when are pets get sick or become ill. They really are like family. I hope all goes well at the vet and Toby starts acting like his usual self soon.

Thank you, Sandy. Here’s what happened. He’s not 100% yet, but is starting to feel better.
Oh Rebecca, I’m really sorry! I’m sure Toby will get better.
Thanks! He is starting to feel better. :) By the way, I am posting the response to your tag tomorrow morning (Monday at 12:01 a.m. eastern).
Hope he gets well soon!
Maybe he got a bit dehydrated and that’s the reaction to it?
I hate it when mine become sick :(
They are both scavengers and they are both off the leash whenever possible, but thanks to that often eat stuff they shouldn’t. So I’m used to the throw up thing.
But when they don’t eat or drink it’s getting serious :(
I keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
Nicoles last blog post..Selling and getting ready
Nicole, Toby ate a staple. But he’s starting to feel better, and the vet says he’ll be just fine. Thanks for your concern. :)
