Toby, however, swallowed a “closed” (used) staple. This, understandably, is irritating his stomach. So no food today, 1/2 ration tomorrow, 3/4 ration Monday, full ration Tuesday. One Pepcid AC each of the next three days, and another “stomach soothing” medication for the next five days.
Yes, the staple will pass on its own.
In other Toby-related news from this morning, his heart murmur is now close to a grade 4. (Grade 5 is the worst.) But the doc took x-rays. His atrium isn’t enlarged; he has no fluid in his lungs. So no cardiac meds for Toby — for now. Also, he needs a dental. (We are BAD humans and don’t brush his teeth. We know better.)
So Toby’s in pretty good shape, heart murmur and staple in his stomach notwithstanding. I know this may not SOUND like good news, but trust me. It is.
By the way, we don’t own a stapler.

I’m glad to hear that you found the source of the problem and it is nothing more serious. I always feel so helpless when a pet is sick.
Thank you. He’s definitely not 100% yet, but he ate this morning and again a little while ago, so he’s doing better.

I am so glad to hear that it wasn’t anything serious (for as serious as the situation is/was, at least it is cureable without highly invasive procedures or medicines). You must be so very relieved. I hope he is feeling better soon.

We used to have a dog which I could have sworn was part goat. The mutt would eat ANYTHING. He got run over by a truck. We like to think he was going after a snack.
