Weekly Winners: April 26-May 3 (kind of)

in Photography, Weekly Winners

I say these photos are from “April 26-May 3 (kind of)” because I took about 1,200 photos Friday at Callaway Gardens. I’m not anywhere near having them “edited” to a manageable point. I don’t want to be up until 3 a.m. working on them, so I hope you’ll forgive me for saving them for next week. After taking more than 2,000 photos the last two weeks — I’ve lost count, the Callaway Gardens photos may be the only photos I HAVE for next week. (I’m a wee bit burned out at the moment… and sore from all the “up and down” of the camera from chest level to eye level.)

Anyhoo…

This week I found myself in several situations in which I couldn’t get super close to my subject (the glass blowing demonstration), sometimes even when using a telephoto lens (the baby geese). So I got to use the cropping tool quite a lot. (The I rarely crop, color correct or otherwise “fiddle” with my photos. (I can’t remember EVER doing as much cropping as I did this week.) But I am pleased with the result. So, here are my Weekly Winners for this week (kind of).

Beautiful photos. Love the goose pictures. I am partial to pictures of mother and babies! Too cute.

Thank you, Jeanette. I wanted to go to the park to look for babies. I wasn’t disappointed. :)

Your pictures are great this week. I think my favorite was the man walking on a rope. Don’t see that much.

HRHs last blog post..Out and about…

Thank you so much! I really like the “rope walker,” too. :)

I just love the first photo, but they are all great!

I crop all the time. It’s so hard to control the surrounding elements, especially when they are alive. I always end up with a stray foot or a hand or a dog tail somewhere. LOL!!

Karen of Sillymonkeezs last blog post..Alphabet Photos (Letter D)

Thanks, Karen. It’s strange; I adored the photo of the cat when I took it, but now it’s my least favorite of the set. Go figure… Yeah, cropping is a good tool. I just need to figure out when to use it. I’ll use your standard of “a stray foot or a hand or a dog tail somewhere” as a start. :)

9 Maggie's Mind 05.04.08 at 1:03 pm

You have some seriously mad talent. I mean that. These are all perfect, wonderful and gorgeous in every way. You know I love anything that meows, barks or quacks/honks, so you know that I am leaving here a happy girl. What a real treat. Seriously. Wow.

That’s a lot of pictures to take!

My favorite of the ones that you put up today is your cute kitty. :)

Thanks so much, Laura!

16 Burgh Baby 05.04.08 at 4:25 pm

I like that you don’t do much to your photos. I like pure photography, although cropping is sometimes just plain necessary.

Great photos, I especially love the first one. Pretty kitty!

Burgh Babys last blog post..Filling the Void

Yeah, I try to be as pure as possible with my photography. Some days it’s easier than others. :) And thanks for the compliment.

17 merrymishaps 05.04.08 at 5:22 pm

Great photos! I love the cat, guy on rope, and baby ducks the best, but they’re all fantastic!

merrymishapss last blog post..in the garden

Thank you so much! I think the guy on the rope is my favorite. :)

18 Hatchet 05.04.08 at 6:31 pm

Those were all fantastic. Cropping is a tool, like any other. No need to apologize! Even Ansel Adams cropped and “fiddled” with his photos. He just had fewer tools than we do today.

The tightrope and the glassblowing were especially nice, definitely due to their unusual nature!

Thanks for dropping by my place!

Thank you so much. Cropping definitely saved me on the rope walker and the glass blower. :)

As always, they’re all great! But I’m biased…that first one is my fav. I’m a cat person. Deathly allergic, but I love them anyway!

Thank you so much, Sadie!
