Weekly Winners: May 24-May 31
This was quite the photo week for me. It took me WAY too much of Saturday to get this ready. I’m not complaining; I’m lucky to be able to spend much of a day doing my hobby. :)
So here you go.
Last Saturday, Ed and I went to my parents’ house for the weekend. They’ve just bought their first home and there are LOTS of things to photograph.
A “Christmas fern” on their sun porch…
Flowers shorter than a blade of grass…
A dandelion gone to seed. (I took WAY TOO MANY photos of this. And got a sunburn. I’ll be sifting through these photos for weeks.)…
A beautiful magnolia, full of blooms…
On Sunday, we went for a walk in town with my mom. We were given a tour of some of the historic buildings. This is an old school room (obviously). Look at those great desks!
On Monday, I photographed my friend Jamie and her husband. Jamie is pregnant with their first child.
On Wednesday, we went to a forest preserve. (Oh, did I mention I took a week’s vacation? Thus, all the gallivanting.)
I loved this fence…
…and this mushroom…
..and this cheerful daisy.
Ed had a birthday Friday. Here’s a photo of the birthday boy, while we were waiting to take the Incline Railway. (We went to Chattanooga for the day.)
Next, we went to Ruby Falls.
Here are “tobacco leaves” (in case you couldn’t tell from the ancient sign placed under them).
The main attraction of Ruby Falls, the waterfall.
Next, and finally, we went to Rock City. People, at least those in the south, often make fun of going there, because there are signs ALL OVER THE PLACE on Interstate 75 (and probably other places nearby) imploring us to “See Rock City.” We shouldn’t make fun. It is BEAUTIFUL, and we will go back.
Rhodendron.
Our shadows waving at the camera.
Rope bridge.
The ubiquitous Rock City shot.
Phew!
I hope you enjoyed the travelogue… I mean my Weekly Winners. :)

Great photos! I especially like the close-up nature shots!
Thanks so much. Macro shots are going to be my “thing,” I think. I love shooting them.
By Annie on Jun 1, 2008
They are all such great shots - did we go to the same preserve this week? Your mushroom shot is way better than mine!
Annie, you’re so kind. I went to a preserve near Atlanta. I enjoyed shooting that mushroom. I got up-close-and-personal with the dirt. :)

Wow, these are just gorgeous! I also spend quite a bit of time some weeks on this little hobby, and I’m so glad that I have the time. Beautiful!
Thank you so much!

These are amazing. I love the magnolia photo… something we don’t have. It is so interesting to see a whole collection of photos.
Thank you!
Here’s a fun fact about magnolias… or least the ones in my parent’s yard. :) The blooms open and close depending on the time of day or the heat or something. (I’m not sure what.)

I love, love, love the mushroom photo. They are all gorgeous, but the mushroom pic is by far my fave!

Wow. I love the dandelion. Your pictures are inspiring.
Thank you, Sam. Those dandelion shots resulted in a sunburn, but it was worth it. :) I’m glad you like my photos.

Every single picture just shouts something at me that makes me squeal in delight! I can’t wait to get to Ruby Falls some day. Michael’s been with his mom, but the kids and I have yet to go. Soon, someday!!
Thank you! :)
Definitely head to Ruby Falls as soon as you can get there. It’s worth the trip.

It’s not fair. It’s just not fair. Why would somebody post a series of pictures, each one of them 10 times better than the best picture I will ever take?
I was absolutely blown away with your post. Unbelievably beautiful.
Thanks for dropping by!
Oh, Gabriel. You are so kind… Thank you.

Oh dear, Shannon. I hope things are getting better. I’m glad you like that shot, even if you DO need to change the title. ;)
By AMomTwoBoys on Jun 1, 2008

That waterfall? The folks at Ruby Falls don’t know exactly where the waterfall originates. Isn’t that wild?!?
