I took this photo at Ruby Falls last Friday. This is how it came out of the camera — for better or for worse. (They do a 5 minute music and light show for each tour group.) There are other shots in the series I like better, but this is the “bluest” one. Also, I think I did a decent job with the long(ish) exposure, considering I didn’t have a tripod.
Here are the settings i used to get the shot.
Exposure: 1 sec
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 14 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
If you’re interested, here are the rest of the photos I took at Ruby Falls.

Thanks to all who have left such lovely comments so far. They’ve made my morning!
I do want to clarify…
I did not have a tripod, but there was a rounded railing where I “rested” the camera. That said, I was still holding onto the camera and had to tilt it at quite an angle to get the shot. In addition, there were lots of people in the room walking around, people leaning up against the railing, etc., causing all manner of vibrations, which, as you know, is not conducive to good long-exposure shots.
Basically, I set up my shot, prayed, held my breath, hit the shutter button and held my breath some more. This day, all of it worked.

Oh-My-Goodness that is so cool!
Thank you, Kelsey! :)
I’ve been there several times. I grew up in Chattanooga. :) Thanks for visiting my blog!
You’re welcome. Thanks for coming by mine, too.
At first glance, I thought that was fabric or some digital artwork. So that’s not how it looked when you saw it? But that’s what the camera saw? Very cool.
Hi, Leora. That is, more or less, how it looked when I saw it. I just meant that I hadn’t added any effects or anything to it after taking the photo. :)
Now how did you get such a sharp picture in a cavern at 1 second shutter speed!? Great shot for that alone, but the composition and the color make it spectacular…
Hi, June. I edited my original post to add that I did have a rounded ledge to rest the camera on, but I still had to hold it. I held my breath and prayed, which also helped. :)
Thank you for the compliment. I’m pretty pleased with this one.
WOW! Gorgeous!
Thank you, Melli!
This is stunning. And straight out of the camera? Very impressive. Seems like this is the place to visit if ever out that way. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much, Robert! Yup, straight out of the camera. Even a blind squirrel can find a nut from time to time. :)
It is a pretty place. Definitely visit if you have the opportunity.
Absolutely fantastic. Great work. And HANDHELD!!!
Thanks so very much. :)
Wow! What an amazing shot! I’m always awed by people who know what they are doing and do it so well.
Raven, you’re so kind. Thank you.

Thank you, Juliana.
Fascinating. It looks like a piece of irridescent silk. What you did tripod or not sure worked for me.
Thank you! :)
Wow, that’s a stunning shot Rebecca.
Thanks so much, Jenty!
I love your blues and your photos of Chattanooga. When my children were young, we went there and enjoyed all of the places that you’ve shown. Thanks for the memories.
Beverly, I’m glad my photos brought back some memories. That made me smile. :)
It’s really good shot! I’m taken back at the low noise in this picture although it’s taken at ISO 1600 :P
Nice shot!!
Thank you. I was surprised by the lack of noise, but I’ll take it! :)
That is really pretty!
