If you’ll forgive a quick commercial, I wanted to let you know that my first blogoversary is next Sunday. In celebration, I’m hosting a blog carnival called “Why I blog.” I’m also giving away a copy of one of my photo prints. I hope you’ll stop by my place next Sunday after you check in on the Weekly Winners and enter the giveaway. And if you’d like more information on the blog carnival, please click here. I probably won’t do Weekly Winners next week, though, because I’m going to be out of town. Yes, I’m going to miss my own party. I promise I’ll be a good hostess when I get back. So please come and link in. :)
Now, on with my Weekly Winners.
This is the matted, framed print for the juried photography show I’m in. It was the first time I’d entered a show, so it’s quite exciting to me.
Just before sunset last Monday.
Asbury kitty on the windowsill in the kitchen.
Fox at the 4th of July parade.
At the 4th of July parade.
Bagpipers.
Patriotic Toby.
I’m completely having a brain cramp about what this is, but it’s pretty regardless. :)
Uncle Sam the stilt walker. (We saw this same guy at a festival in another town later on the 4th.)
I love this antique car.
Roller skates!
Toby smelling the daisies. :)
Near sunset
Old Glory, just before sunset.
This is the first time I photographed fireworks. I’m pretty pleased.
So a good week all in all… Again, I’ll be away most of next weekend — and doing a blog carnival next Sunday — so I likely won’t do Weekly Winners. We’ll see, though. :)
In the meantime, you can click here for more of my week’s favorites, here for my Flickr page, and here to visit the lovely and talented Sarcastic Mom to see more Weekly Winners.

LOVe the pic of toby smelling the flowers! :)
so, where you going? :)
I really, really love that one, too. He actually WAS smelling the flowers, rather than just hitting them in a “drive-by,” if that makes sense.
To answer your question, we’re going to visit my best friend from college and her family… and we hope to be able to camp out on their living room floor for a night or two. :)
Your shots of fireworks turned out beautifully! I read the tips about how to photograph them, but that will have to wait for when I upgrade to a dslr.
Another favorite: the rollerskates
Thanks, Steph… I used short shutter speeds for the fireworks, because I didn’t have my tripod with me. I really LIKE the beginning of firework “bursts,” so I thought they turned out pretty well. :) I am loving the roller skates, too. It’s nice when a photograph turns out the way you picture it. (I snapped the shot with that particular crop in mind.)
Congrats on the photography show, I think you deserve this, I always enjoy your pictures so much! You have a great eye!
Love the dog smelling the daisies too!
Thanks so much, Jientje. I’m going to “visit” my photo next Saturday and to see what everyone else did. I’m looking forward to it. Toby smelling the daisies has been quite the hit. He’s a sweet dog. :)
Oh goodness me, how CUTE is that photo of Toby and the Erigon daisies!!
Personally, I think that butterfly photo is just awesome, I’m sure sure you’ll do well in the show. Well done!
Erigon daisies… had no idea what kind they were. Thanks! :) I’m excited about the show. Thank you for the compliment.
The daisy pic with Toby is definitely my fave too :)
The fireworks turned out great too - I’m so jealous!!
Thanks so much, Marylin.
As for the fireworks, I had my share of duds, too. :)
Beautiful pictures. I love the kittie one. Somthing about cats in the sunshine. Have a nice trip next weekend.
Thanks so much, Jeanette. The light is totally the best part about that kitty photo. I’m looking forward to our trip.
Toby is so very, very cute! What breed is he? Great fireworks shots!
Hi, Melissa… the photo of Toby has been quite popular. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We got him through rescue, believe it or not…
I’m glad you enjoyed the fireworks photos. :)
Great pictures, as always! Your fireworks turned out wonderful. I think my favorite is the roller skates!
The matted and framed picture looks awesome - congratulations on the show!
I love that roller skates shot, too. :) Thank you for the compliments!
I love the fireworks photos. I’m always totally unsuccessful with these types of photos. What settings did you use? Did you use a tripod?
I didn’t have my tripod with me, so I used fairly short exposure times. I shot all the photos with ISO 400 and on F/11. The first two shots were 1 second exposures. (That’s fairly long for hand-held, so I’m not sure how I got so lucky. The image stabilization that’s on my camera is a good thing though.) The rest were shot at 2/3 of a second.
Thanks for the compliment, Carol Anne.
Amazing 4th of July shots!
Thanks so much, Beth. :)
I love the patriotic feel to your series this week! Great work, Rebecca!
Thank you, Secret Agent Mama. :)
Great shots! This year was my first real attempt to shoot fireworks, too.
Love the puppy dog pics, too. ö
Thank you, Quirky James. :)
Gorgeous series! I didn’t get to see a parade or fireworks, but I feel like I was there. Awesome.
Thanks so much, Maggie. :) I appreciate the compliment.
They are all so great, it’s pretty much impossible to pick a favorite. I really really reeeeeeeeeeeally like the one of Toby smelling the daisies though.
Oh thank you, Karen. :) I’m so pleased that people like the photo of Toby. I was so glad to have captured it…
How adorable is that pic of Toby smelling flowers! oo cute. Good luck with the photo show!
Thank you so much. :)
I enjoyed your pics, especially the fireworks.
The sunset was also pretty amazing.
Where I live it gets pretty smoggy in the summer and the beautiful sunsets are few and far between.
Thank you, Missy. We have our fair share of smog, too, but that was a good night. :) I just happened to be outside with my camera when I saw that sunset. I was sitting in our driveway. Go figure.
ALL of these are exquisite but my faves are: Toby smelling the daisies & the fireworks series~you’d never know that this was your 1st time photographing fireworks ;)
Thank you, Connie. I think I had a serious case of “beginner’s luck” with those fireworks photos.
The daisy one is definately my favorite. Godd shots.
Thanks so much, Laura. :)
A+ on the fireworks, Rebecca! Those are SO hard to get! Perhaps next year I’ll be able to go and can try my luck at capturing them on “film”
I’d love to enter your, “Why I blog” bash, sounds fun. :-)
Thanks, Laura! :) And yay about the blog carnival. I hope to see you then. :)
What gorgeous shots! I really felt like I got to see the best of the parade! Made up for not actually going to one this year!

Hi Rebecca * waves*.. The fireworks series is awesome. I would be pretty pleased with myself if I had taken them as well. ( my fireworks shots turn out umm interestingly streaky lol)
The church spire just on sunset is beautiful and I think I like it the best.
I am excited for you and with your awesome butterfly entry in the photography show I think you have a very good chance of winning.. YAY..
Congratulations in advance for your blogoversary…xxx Kim

Oh, you’re so sweet to say all of this. I’m glad you like the spire. Is it wrong to say that I wish the electric wires aren’t in it? :) (It’s impossible to please a photographer, and I just play one on the weekend.)
I was amazed by how well the fireworks photos turned out… but I had my share of streaky ones, too… believe me.
I’m excited about visiting my photo on Saturday and about my blogoversary. Thanks for the well wishes about those.
Your fireworks came out great, and I LOVE Toby with the daisies!
