Blog the Recession

I heard about Blog the Recession from Steph at Those Corwins. It’s being hosted at Motherhood Uncensored. You can read more about it here.

Basically, if you sign up, you pledge to “click through” to people’s blogs if you read in a feed reader. That way you boost the blogger’s ad revenue (”blog the recession”) if the blog accepts advertising, or boost the blogger’s ego (via increased page counts) if they don’t. :)

I like the idea of boosting people’s egos… and if they make a few extra pennies as a result of my visit, that’s a bonus.

By the way, I feel REALLY weird posting this, as I DO accept advertising (mainly for the fun of seeing what’s up with the folks in the BlogHer network)… but I think it’s a fun idea… so post I will… and Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry perfectly summed up my feelings in a post at her place… so read it. And than picture me saying “What Beth said.” :)

Good Idea - this click-through thing. Hopefully there are some nice articles ;-)

That’s something I hadn’t considered regarding revenue (blogher ads) and click throughs. I think I’m a 60/40 click through-er. (Not a word, I know).

Meaning 60% of the time I do click over to leave a comment or to see the post in person. But I shall click through going forward.

I feel the same way as you do. And I need to go read Beth’s. I’ve tried to stop looking at my page views, etc. because really I blog because I enjoy it, but I must say my spirits do get low when my views are low too.

Steph, I know what you mean. It’s tough to throw a party and not have anyone show up.

I’ve been taking a bit of a bloggy break — posting every day, but returning comments once a week or so. My visits/page views have dropped quite a lot, but I’m feeling much more sane. And I have 5 more subscribers than when I first started checking a few months ago — 5 more subscribers is huge when you start at 11. :)

LOVE this idea. You’re the 3rd person I found blogging about this, and I really think this is great. I’ll surely be clicking through to blogs , rather than through a reader.
