For today’s Show Me… Project subject, Robert wants us to show him an object or objects that have sentimental value.

These are my engagement ring, my wedding band… and my father-in-law’s wedding band. (His band is at the upper left.) My husband’s parents married in 1947. My father-in-law wore the ring until he died in 1993, after which my mother-in-law wore it. Three weeks before she died, she took it off her finger and gave it to my husband. We’d been married less than three months.

Ed wanted to wear the wedding band I’d put on his finger on our wedding day. The ring wouldn’t fit on another of his fingers. So I suggested that I wear it. His mom loved the idea.

As my mother-in-law did, I wear the ring on the same finger on which I wear my wedding band and engagement ring. Each time I look at it, I’m reminded of the wonderful example of marriage my in-laws gave to my husband.

I wear my grandmothers engagement ring that was given to my mother after my grandmother died way too young. Mom gave it to me when our daughter was born, since she was named after my grandmother.

What a wonderful post. And such a tribute to a loving marriage. My grandparents were married in 1947. They will celebrate 62 years together this coming January. Grandpa is 90 now, and Gram is 84 … and they’re doing surprisingly well for their ages!

Thank you, Annie. My engagement ring has a story, too. I should blog about it sometime. :)

What a lovely story!
I love the look of the plain gold on each side of your engagement ring which is beautiful by the way.

Carletta, I’ve always liked the gold on each side of an engagement ring look, too. :) I think it’s neat that I got to do that myself… even though I’d rather the ring were still on my mother-in-law’s finger, meaning I would have gotten to know her better.

I too thought of doing my wedding ring. I love the picture and the story behind it. The inclusion of the third ring is wonderful. :)
