The Great Gas Hunt

As is the case with many areas in the southeast, our part of Georgia is suffering from gas shortages.

This is the account of his trip yesterday to find gas for my car and includes photos he took along the way.

10:54 a.m.: Ed departs.

11:08 a.m.: No gas here!

11:13 a.m.: Doesn’t look like there’s any gas here, either.

P9280072

11:27 a.m.: Ed calls me from a station about 3 miles away. He’s waiting in line, hoping the station doesn’t run out before he gets to the front of the line.

11:30 a.m.: This is the line, which isn’t moving.

11:40 a.m.: Ed, thoroughly bored, leaned across the front seat to take this photo of the passenger’s side mirror.

P9280075

11:41 a.m.: As you can see, this is a MAJOR street on which Ed and other folks wandered about a bit while they waited. Thankfully, there’s not much traffic on Sunday mornings.

P9280076

11:42 a.m.: You may be able to see a tanker truck beyond the station. Ed suspects that truck just made a delivery to the gas station. Just after seeing this, the line started moving, which leads Ed to believe people saw the tanker truck pull in and started forming a line.

P9280077

11:56 a.m.: Almost there.

P9280079

12:03 p.m.: Hooray!

P9280083

12:08 p.m. Ed returns home.

The trip took an hour and 14 minutes. (Last Sunday’s Gas Hunt took “only” 40 minutes.) It could have been a LOT worse. Ed found gas at the same station a few hours later and filled up his car, so we both have gas to get us through the coming week.

Hopefully, getting gas next week will be MUCH closer to our usual 10-minute round-trip time. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Unbelievable- I can’t believe you (and so many others) are still going through this. I hope it gets better! How stressful!

I am SO glad I don’t live in Georgia anymore. Too many hassles. I’ll take a small, college town anyday!

We have seen gas lies like that since 1973. What the heck is going on down there? In Georgia.

My sister and her husband are in Georgia (traveling in their RV) and have reported challenges finding gas (in addition to higher prices) recently. Your photos with the long lines remind me of the gas crunch of the late 1970s here in Southern California. I hope things get squared away with the gas supply soon.
Hugs and blessings,

Good grief! I am so sorry to hear about the shortage. That is terrible. It reminds me of what it’s like to get gas during hurricane season. I hope you all find relief soon.

The only good thing about this gas shortage, is how funny it is when you ask your friends, colleagues, etc “Do you have gas?”, not something you would normally ask them. Gas is on everybody’s mind. TEE HEE!

Totally crazy, no?!?! My Father-in-law and his wife are coming into town today and this is his major concern. Luckily our small town has an Exxon that is staying stocked up on gas.
