A few weeks ago, I asked for your input on which photographs I should enter into the Southeastern Flower Show’s photography competition. Thanks to all of you who responded.
When it was all said and done, I picked these four:
I’ve made the prints with Ed’s help, filled out the application, written the check for the entry fee. All that’s left is mailing it off. That will happen Monday, the deadline for the prints to be postmarked. :)
I’ll hear if any of them were accepted sometime in December when my self-addressed stamped envelope is returned. I’ll let you know when I know.

Amazing work, Reba. Just Amazing. Personally, I vote for the first three. I don’t get the last one - but that’s just me. Technically - it’s right on the money - artistically - it feels off-balance to me.
I hate to be critical - but I feel I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t tell you - truthfully - exactly how I feel. Your work is amazing - and I’m probably in the extreme minority as to the merits of that shot.
Okay - now that I see that shot larger it feels better, but I still thing it would balance better if there were a bit of ‘blank’ area in the lower right corner of the shot.
–Isn’t that funny, because one of the reasons I really LIKE that image is that it’s pretty much 50% flower and 50% shadow… I shot it the way I did to get just that effect. (I didn’t crop it or color-correct it or anything.)
On the other hand, MOST people have loved the orchid (photo number 3), and I’m still kind of “eh” on that one. It’s a GREAT macro (if I can be immodest), but I don’t just adore it. But printed it’s pretty amazing, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.
It will be interesting to see which, if any, of the photos get into the show.
I appreciate your candor. A big reason I put my stuff “out there” is to hear what they thing is “what,” if that makes sense. :)
I don’t know how you managed to narrow it down! Great choices. Best of luck- can’t wait to hear you’ve won!
–It was a bit tough… I had over 400 images in Flickr of flowers — and I don’t know how many more that didn’t make the “Flickr cut.” It’s a good problem to have, I suppose. :)

I’m going to go with a group called Photo Reflect. The url for my site is http://www.photosbyreba.photoreflect.com. I’ve not put anything up there that doesn’t require a password yet, but that’s what I’ll be using. It’s a better fit for me than Etsy, I think, for a number of reasons. One REALLY cool thing about it is that I can “advertise” lots of the different sizes of the same print, which is tough with Etsy.
Another cool thing is that if I have a “request” for a particular print, I can put it up and the person can decide what shots they want, etc.
I’m moving a little slowly for holiday gifts this year, unfortunately. That said, if there’s something you know you’d want, let me know. I can get the prints made for this season… I just haven’t had time to go through all my stuff and post what I think people would like yet. Does that make sense?
