Today, my employer graciously set up a computer and projector in a conference room, so we could watch the U.S. presidential inauguration via streaming video as we ate lunch.
As noon, the hour for the swearing in of Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama, approached, quite a few of my coworkers were in the room.
As Rick Warren began The Lord’s Prayer, the video went still.
Oh dear.
People who could help were called. They did their thing, and the rest of us waited.
At roughly 12:05, we did see Mr. Obama with his hand raised to take the oath of office.

But that frozen image is all we saw. There were just too many people all over the world trying to watch the event via the Internet, and we couldn’t get on.
Still, we had a new president even if our little group didn’t see it live. I knew this, because the Internet (the part that doesn’t require streaming video), told me so when I got back to my desk. :)
I really enjoy presidential inaugurations. It matters little to me if the president is the person I would have chosen. I just love the ceremony and the peaceful transfer of power. I also enjoy wondering what the years of his (or her!) presidency will bring. We just never know. (And if the president had a crystal ball and COULD know, I doubt many would take the job.)
In 2013, the inauguration will be on a Sunday. With any luck I’ll be able to be at home in front of the t.v. Still, hopefully our friends at CNN.com, ABC.com, and MSNBC.com (among other organizations) will know to have a TON more bandwidth for the 10 to 15 minutes before and during the swearing in. I was really sad to miss it. Thank goodness for our DVR.
Assuming it recorded everything properly, that is. Hmmm…

Now I feel kind of bad that I was hogging up the Internet watching it on about 3 websites while watching on TV… Anyway, I hope you get to see it on DVR.
Also, I’m about 50/50 on going to BlissDom, but I’m excited to meet you if I go!
I hope your DVR got it for you - it was really neat to see!
And kudos to your employer for at least trying… :-)
We had the same problem at our office. Every time music started playing, the screen would stick. It locked up for good during the Yo-Yo Ma/Isaak Perleman/clarinetist performance … and we missed the actual swearing in. :(
