On Thursday, I humiliated myself by going on and on about shared about my love of “Family Ties” and Michael J. Fox. On Friday, I mentioned to a friend that I also had (and still have) mad love for Tom Hanks.
Then, Tom Hanks played a dumb version of himself on a “Jeopardy” skit on last night’s “Saturday Night Live.” (The skit, though not Hanks’s part, is a little too foul for my blog, but you can find it here on NBC’s Web site, if you’re interested.)
And after all THAT, I decided I needed to write a few words about Tom and hear about some of YOUR crushes.
I first remember seeing Tom in “Big” in 1988. I loved that movie. My aunt took my sister and me to see it.
He also guest starred in three episodes of “Family Ties” as the Keaton children’s Uncle Ned. My favorite of those episodes, which you can find here, is the one in which alcoholic Uncle Ned, desperately needing a drink, downs a bottle of vanilla extract.
I can’t really tell you WHY I have a crush on Tom (apart from the fact that he’s cute and a great actor and stuff), but can people REALLY always say why they have crushes? ;)
Now, I want to know who some of your childhood crushes were. Do tell!

Kurt Russell in the Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and the other half dozen awful Disney movies I sat through just to be in a dark room with him for 2 hours. Shhh… don’t tell, but I’ll still sit through any schlock movie just for him.
Joie,
Thanks for commenting (and tell your friends). :)
I didn’t know there WAS a movie called “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.” But, lots of people look at me blankly when I mention Tom Hanks’s “Joe Versus the Volcano.”
I’d watch Tom Hanks read the phone book, so I understand what you mean about sitting through any movie Russell had done.
Oh, oh, easy one! The Coreys- Feldman and Haim. Ricky Schroeder (”The Ricker”) and Rick Springfield :)
My childhood crush was Haley Mills. And yes, I AM that old.
lceel´s last blog post..Doh!
Danifred,
You and I are just about the same age. I can’t remember being into either Corey OR Rick Springfield. Ricky Schroeder was a bit of a different story, but I never had it bad for him either. :)
Lou, I’m glad you participated; I was hoping you would. I like your response. I loved those movies, too.
And you are NOT “that old.” Just sayin’.
