As a kid, Ed would go to the pool in the summer and dive for pennies at the bottom and do all the things kids do. He, to use his words, swam “like a fish.”
When I started swimming laps in May, Ed went with me the first time. He planned to swim, but quickly learned that, over the decade-plus he’d not been in a body of water larger than his bathtub, he’d developed a fear of water. We were briefly at the outdoor poor on Memorial Day, and he was frightened to go down the water slide, so he watched as I went.
He decided to take adult swimming lessons. I was able to attend his last lesson. They got to play in the outdoor pool.
Doesn’t look like he’s afraid anymore, now does it?
I’m so proud of him.

Well done, Ed! Horray for you!
(And that slide looks like SO much fun)
That is SO exciting! I’m impressed that he gave it such a good try (lessons even!) after being so afraid. Way to go Ed!

Way to go, Ed! Now all you need to do is learn the joy of swimming underwater, on your back, looking up. Think about it.
