Anna is hosting another color project. I LOVE color projects.

I had a hard time with Project Blue, but I did have fun.

As is “tradition” with me I’m using a previously-used photo first. I’ll be on the lookout for “new black” (brown? kidding!) over the next several days.

This was a fun photo week. I used the self-timer on my camera for the first time. (I’ve had the camera almost a year.) I also got to photograph buildings, something I’ve not done much.

By the way, the blue skies in the photos from our trip to Athens? That’s the way God made the sky that day. I didn’t do any color correction whatsoever… to any of the photos. It was an absolutely beautiful “sky day.” The only cloud to be seen all day wasn’t really a cloud, but a contrail.

And now on with it. :)

Because I want to be like Secret Agent Mama in every way, I took a series of photos of myself looking in my mailbox. I’m still planning on blogging about this one. And I’ll probably try this again when I have more time. (I took this series in about ten minutes’ time one night this week as the light was fading.)

Photos from our trip to Athens, Georgia, to see my dad give remarks upon his retirement from full-time ministry in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Today is his last Sunday. (Pictures to come on the blog this week and/or next week for Weekly Winners.)

Mom and Dad before the session.

Dad making his remarks. (Each retiring pastor had a few minutes to speak. Many spouses stood on the platform as well… being a pastor’s wife is a calling, I think. Being a preacher’s kid is something you’re born into.)

Well, I got a little caught up in Project Blue last week and, apart from the very exciting broken air conditioner news, didn’t do many blogs with many WORDS in them.

There may be some of you out there who, as fun as Project Blue is, don’t LIKE looking at blue things all the time. I know I don’t. For instance, Blue Man Group? Hate them, if for no other reason than because they do this Chubby Bunny-type thing, and I almost threw up when I watched the video. (I HAD to watch the video as part of my job, and I’m still recovering, even though it’s been 10 years or so since I saw it.) I can talk about all sorts of “gross things” at breakfast, but if someone puts more than two marshmallows in his mouth at once, I may lose my lunch. Even WRITING about this makes my gag reflex kick in.

So all this is to say that I’m going to do more actual WORD blogs this week.

Although after this entry, you may prefer Project Blue. :)

Photos of my photos. I finally finished my bloggy giveaway from a few weeks ago. The giveaway is the first time I’ve put my photography “out there,” so I took a photo of the matted, packaged prints.

Project Blue is hard.
Not much blue to be found near.
But this is “new” blue.

More “new” blue later.
Computers are full of it
Made me so happy.

I took this photo at Ruby Falls last Friday. This is how it came out of the camera — for better or for worse. (They do a 5 minute music and light show for each tour group.) There are other shots in the series I like better, but this is the “bluest” one. Also, I think I did a decent job with the long(ish) exposure, considering I didn’t have a tripod.

Here are the settings i used to get the shot.

Exposure: 1 sec
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 14 mm
ISO Speed: 1600

If you’re interested, here are the rest of the photos I took at Ruby Falls.

Edited at 9:47 a.m. to add:

Thanks to all who have left such lovely comments so far. They’ve made my morning!

I do want to clarify…

I did not have a tripod, but there was a rounded railing where I “rested” the camera. That said, I was still holding onto the camera and had to tilt it at quite an angle to get the shot. In addition, there were lots of people in the room walking around, people leaning up against the railing, etc., causing all manner of vibrations, which, as you know, is not conducive to good long-exposure shots.

Basically, I set up my shot, prayed, held my breath, hit the shutter button and held my breath some more. This day, all of it worked.

I have some ideas for “new” blue, but haven’t yet been able to photograph any of them.

So, I thought I’d use another of my favorite photographs that I’ve not yet posted.

I took this photo in early May at Callaway Gardens. These lights was outside the butterfly exhibit, and I just loved them.

I’ll be on the lookout for “new” blue things over the next few days.
